Open Evening

Every year our branch hosts an Open Evening in Malmesbury Town Hall

We've had some fantastic speakers on subjects such as Japanese Embroidery, William Morris textiles, North African textile traditions and historical costume.

This year we are welcoming Judi Grant from the American Museum in Britain based in Bath which is dedicated to American cultural and design history and has a fantastic collection of quilts.  Judi will join us on Tuesday, 13th September from 7pm - 9pm.

The event is free and we hope to attract people who are interested in all aspects of textiles and their history to hear Judi's presentation and also to see some of the work our members do in our yearly programme of talks and workshops.

Our main aim is to promote the branch, its workshops and talks and, of course, gain a few new members.  Often people are discouraged by the title of 'Guild' - thinking that they need to be experts in embroidery.  This is definitely not the case at all.  'Guild' is really a historical term - the aims of our branch and, indeed the National Guild are broader than the traditional 'Guild' title.

Of course, we have members who are very skilled in traditional embroidery but also there are beginners amongst us who just like to 'have a go' at a variety of textile crafts or simply enjoy stitching on our regular monthly stitch days.  We host talks by quilters, fashion designers, weavers and contemporary textile artists and we work hard to make sure our workshops reflect the interests and skills of our members.

Membership for the Branch is £18 per year and an additional £33 to join the National Guild.  If you'd like more information, please comment below or email us at malmesburyembroiderers@gmail.com

We look forward to hearing from you.
