Open Evening 2017

Every year our branch hosts an Open Evening in the Town Hall in Malmesbury.

We know that there is a lot of interest in Malmesbury in arts, crafts and creativity and it's a great chance for us to share a little of what we do within the branch and to show that there is a lot more to embroidery than its traditional image.

We are a small branch but we have a wide range of interests from weaving to goldwork, sashiko to shibori, machine and hand embroidery!  Sometimes, it seems that the title of 'Guild' can be a little misleading - with an implication that members need to be somehow 'expert' or 'professional' embroiderers.  This is not the case at all - there is definitely a great deal of talent amongst our members but, most importantly, everyone has an enthusiasm for learning about different techniques and textile crafts and also hearing about other amazing textile artists and craftspeople through our programme of talks and workshops.

This year we are welcoming Caroline Allington to give our Open Evening Talk 'Caring for Historic Interiors'. Caroline has had a long and varied career in the conservation and curation of historic interiors.  We are looking forward to hearing about her roles in institutions including the British Museum, the National Trust and, more locally Lydiard House in West Swindon.

We are also hosting a small 'works in progress' exhibition and a fabric/remnant sale to boost branch funds.

Please join us on Tuesday, 12th September at Malmesbury Town Hall, Cross Hayes, SN16 9BZ

Doors open at 7pm and the event is free to attend.  We look forward to meeting you!

Home and Away Exhibition

The Malmesbury Branch of the Embroiderers' Guild would like to invite you to our exhibition in the John Bowen Gallery, Malmesbury Town Hall.

'Home and Away' is inspired by the joy of travel and the pleasures of 'home sweet home' with over half of our branch members exhibiting a wide range of embroidery pieces and textile art.

Please visit us every day (except Sundays) from Saturday, 8th April until Thursday 27th.

We look forward to meeting you!
